A project I recently took on was transforming a dated HTML website to the Powerful WordPress Blog Format. Ski-Tec.com was built years ago in HTML and was what we call a ‘static’ website. The site had about 5 pages that basically never changed, with exception of a new photo every now and then. Any change to your website is good in the eyes of the search engines…but just changing a photo is not good enough these days to remain important in those search engine eyes. The ‘bots’ or ‘spiders’ are constantly crawling your website for new information so that they can rank it accordingly in the search results. The ‘bots’ love new content (text/words). Pictures are good for people because we are visual, but ‘Googlebots’ and ‘spiders’ like the CONTENT.
Many years of history existed in the old website…but just in pictures. When I initially reviewed the content on the website, there was some decent SEO and proper keywords in place. The website was mainly comprised of pictures, as it is a furniture type website, so one whole page was a dedicated photo gallery…with basically no ‘good content’. The great thing about transitioning to the WordPress blog format is that we can start from a date back in time…as far back as we want…and then work forward towards the future or current date, hence ‘Back To The Future’. Each post shows a date, but we can ‘backdate’. Luckily, with digital cameras, we always know what date the picture was taken, so we can easily assign the correct date to the blog post and have the picture correctly reflect when the event actually took place.
Moving Ski-Tec.com did take some time, as there were so many pictures involved. Moving the website to blog format allowed us to take those previously ‘static’ 5 pages…and turn the website into about 50 pages. Before the move, the website had 5 pages…each with custom SEO/keywords, etc. Now we have 50 pages, all with custom SEO (titles/descriptions/keywords). Are you getting the idea of why the ‘blog’ format can be so powerful? Googlebots now love Ski-tec.com, and traffic has increased significantly!
Don’t underestimate the power of the WordPress blog format!!!
